Understanding Weight Gain & Diet during pregnancy

During pregnancy, you will need additional nutrients to keep you and your baby healthy. However this does not mean that you must eat twice as much. Incidentally, if your weight gain exceeds the recommended level, it may be hard to lose after your baby is born, and could lead to obesity. Generally speaking, weight gain in the last 20 weeks of pregnancy should not exceed 0.5 kg per week. Excessive weight gain may increase your chances of developing pre-eclampsia, a condition that will require special attention.
